Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) is now a key university of finance and economics directly under the jurisdiction of the Chinese Ministry of Education. It is also one of the top 100 universities in the nation¡¯s ¡°Project 211¡±. In 2001, the university was listed among China¡¯s key universities authorized to enroll and train foreign students.
SWUFE has19 colleges, 26 Bachelor¡¯s Degree programs, 34 Master¡¯s Degree programs, and 19 Doctor¡¯s degree programs. It has more than 10,000 teachers and students.
The program of enrolling and training foreign students at SWUFE began in 1996. The International Education College of SWUFE has set up long-term and short-term classes for studying Chinese. It enrolls students by Chinese government scholarship, foreign exchange students and self-providing students. Until now there have been hundreds of foreign students from USA¡¢France¡¢Germany¡¢Philippines¡¢Turkey¡¢Australia¡¢Mongolia¡¢South Korea¡¢UK¡¢Japan¡¢Israel¡¢Russia¡¢Thailand¡¢Ireland etc.
SWUFE is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. Chengdu is well known by ¡°Land of Abundance¡±, Chengdu¡¯s nickname. The largest panda preserve zone in the world, Wolong is about a 2-hour drive from the city by car. Another attraction for foreign students is the fact that Chengdu is the gateway to mysterious Tibet. This city has an international airport connecting the United States, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, France and other countries. It also connects most major Chinese cities by frequent flight, railways, and highways.
